Wedding information - Gabe's principles at a wedding
These principles may seem obvious, but surprisingly many
musicians overlook them -- often!
- Each wedding is unique, by the people involved and their individual tastes.
- Ceremony and early reception music generally calls for light background
music, whether traditional classical pieces or classic jazz standards. As the
evening progresses, music can become more upbeat, yet remain a pleasant
compliment to the reception.
- The times before and after a meal are important at a wedding,
because often guests are just standing around and mingling. Those are
the times when music is critical to sustaining the energy of the
party.
- Music should never be forced. The best song selections are those
chosen based on the reaction of the guests and the overall mood of the
party. If guests want to dance, fine. If not, there is no reason
to force them.
- Wedding receptions are not musical recitals or performances.
Musicians are there to provide tasteful music that is meaningful
to the guests, and most importantly to the bridal couple.
- The most important principle is to be flexible.
